Archaeological Museum of Sitia
The Archaeological Museum of Sitia is operating since 1984. The museum hosts exhibits from all eastern Crete. Among the findings considered important are the ones from the ancient town of Zakros and the gold and ivory statue of Kouros found in Palekastro.

Folklore Museum of Sitia
Opened in 1974, the Sitia Folklore Museum, is one of the most important folk museums in Greece. In its halls you can enjoy the richness of the cultural heritage of the people from Sitia through weaving, embroidery, furniture, costumes, ceramics and more.

Ancient Zakros and the Minoan Palace, located in the village of Kato Zakros in the Sitia region, built in 1600 BC .. The ruins of the ancient city can be visited and is one of the most popular destinations in Eastern Crete. Some of the findings are exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Sitia.

The ancient city of Itanos, today known as Ermoupoli, was together with the ancient town of Zakros among the most powerful cities of the coastal eastern Crete. These cities dominated from the Minoan times to the Hellenistic and Greco-Roman period.You can walk through the site and admire the ruins. In the surrounding area there are beautiful beaches for swimming.

Holy Monastery of Toplou
10 km. to the East of Sitia is Akrotiri Sidero, not far from Sitia Beach City Resort & Spa, is the Toplou Monastery or Monastery of Panagia Akrotiriani. This is one of the most historic monasteries of Crete, known for its fabulous archaeological treasures. Definitely worth a visit to admire the magnificent two-aisled church dedicated to the Birth of the Virgin and to John the Theologian. Toplou Monastery celebrates on September 26, and on this day there is a big festival and many people gather. You can combine your visit to the monastery with the surrounding beaches like Vai or Ermoupoli for a swim.

On the way to Goudouras and east of Makrigialos, we find the Kapsa Μonastery or Monastery of Aghios Ioannis Kapsa. The peculiar way of building the monastery, makes it one of the most beautiful monasteries in Crete. This is because the monastery seems to be part of the rocks, next to Pervolakia Gorge. You can visit Moni Kapsa daily from 06:30 to 13:30 and from 15:30 to 19:00.
